NAHMA HUD Update: Assistance Requested in Spreading the Word to House Afghan Refugees

Please find below an announcement from HUD’s Office of Multifamily Housing regarding HUD efforts to house Afghan refugees. HUD Multifamily is gathering vacancy and potential resource information to assist Afghan evacuees/refugees as they are resettled in the U.S. and seek permanent housing. Please Assist Us in Spreading the Word to House Afghan Refugees
Multifamily Stakeholder:
HUD’s Office of Multifamily Housing Programs kindly requests your assistance in helping us spread the word as part of the federal government’s multi-agency response to house Afghan refugees. We sent the "HUD Multifamily Afghan Refugee Solicitation" message below today to our owner/agent stakeholders in the following 10 localities:
- Texas: Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin
- California: Glendale, Sacramento, San Diego, San Jose, Turlock
- Virginia: Fairfax, Manassas, Richmond, Alexandria
- Maryland: Silver Spring, Hyattsville and Baltimore
- Washington State: Kent, SeaTac and Spokane
- Florida: Tampa, Clearwater, and Jacksonville
- Arizona: Glendale, Phoenix and Tucson
- Pennsylvania: Erie, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Lancaster
- New York: Rochester, Buffalo, and Syracuse
- Massachusetts: Worcester, West Springfield, Boston and Lowell
We would appreciate your assistance by encouraging your members to respond to our request with any vacancy information that they have. We will pass this information on to the Department of State’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration.

HUD Multifamily Afghan Refugee Solicitation Email
Thousands of Afghan refugee families are in need of housing as they transition to life in this country. You are receiving this message as our records reflect that you are the owner/agent contact person for the below property in (list state): (Owner/Property group name, IREM number, property name/ address, city)
HUD Multifamily is gathering vacancy and potential resource information to assist Afghan evacuees/refugees as they are resettled in the U.S. and seek permanent housing. While circumstances will vary, Afghans will receive limited financial assistance that can be used for rent and/or security deposits. Additionally, resettlement agencies and/or the state refugee coordinators will provide these families with case-management assistance, such as applying for government benefits and/or securing employment. Additional information including benefits for Afghan families paroled in the U.S. can be found on the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement website.
Please submit vacancy/potential resource information through this online form or to the MF Disaster Team mailbox, [email protected], with the subject: REFUGEE.
Below is a listing of information/data points needed if you choose to submit to the mailbox. This online tool is being tested for efficiency and ease in submitting this information. Please do not reply to this message with vacancy/potential resource information.
Under FHA Regulatory Agreements, HUD may request borrowers of FHA-insured multifamily mortgages to promptly furnish occupancy reports and to give specific answers to related questions (e.g., HUD-92466M (6/18), HUD-92466M-11 (Rev. 04/11), HUD-92465 (6-77)). This request is for monthly occupancy reports and bi-weekly submissions/updates on potential resource/vacancy information for 90 days.
