HUD Operations During Shutdown — and What’s Ahead for Affordable Housing Leaders

Government Shutdown Update
As of now, the federal government is continuing to experience a shutdown due to a lapse in funding. During a government shutdown, many federal agencies temporarily pause or limit certain operations until new appropriations are approved. At this time, there is no confirmed end date for the shutdown.
During a Government and HUD shutdown, PBCA owners and agents should follow these steps to ensure compliance and maintain operations:
- Stay Informed: Keep up with HUD's contingency plans and updates regarding the shutdown.
- Monitor Compliance: Regularly check TRACS for compliance status and ensure all required documents are submitted on time.
- Prepare for Onsite Reviews: Be ready for onsite Management and Occupancy Reviews (MORs) as required by HUD.
- Manage Tenant Files: Securely manage tenant files and waiting lists as per HUD regulations.
- Respond to Emergencies: Be prepared to address any emergencies that may arise during the shutdown.
By following these guidelines, PBCA owners and agents can help ensure the continuity of HUD- assisted housing programs during a government shutdown.
