NAHMA Update: Announcing the AHMA Advocacy Challenge & Advocacy Calls

We are excited to announce a fun new way to get involved with NAHMA’s grassroots advocacy efforts: the AHMA “World Cup” Advocacy Challenge from July 27th – September 3rd, 2018. Check out the attached flyer and our website here!

AHMA Advocacy “World Cup” Challenge, July 27th – Sept 3rd

Join us for a friendly regional AHMA competition to earn points and elevate the importance of affordable housing. While lawmakers are in their home districts this August, conduct one of five types of advocacy to earn points:

• post on social media (must use Challenge hashtags and tag AHMA in post/tweet) #ScoreMoreHousing #NAHMA18
• attend a town hall / political event
• meet with lawmakers or their staff
• plan a resident engagement activity
• host a property tour with lawmakers or their staff

Affordable housing talking points, statistics, and sample posts will be provided to help with advocacy. Take pictures of your activities; AHMAs submit them to us at the end of the Challenge to earn points. Winners announced at NAHMA’s October Meeting in Washington, DC!

Participating properties get recognized on social media, and the top AHMA in each activity category wins small prizes. The AHMA with the most points wins the grand prize: Hotel accommodations for 3 nights at the Fairmont in DC for 1 person, during the NAHMA Meeting.

Advocacy Calls: How to Host Property Tours and Plan Resident Engagement Activities

To help get the advocacy ideas rolling, we are hosting two “Advocacy Calls” leading up to the Challenge. Hear from NAHMA members on best practices for advocacy, and share your own questions or ideas:

• Thursday, June 28th, 4pm EDT: How to Plan a Resident Engagement Activity (1-800-377-8846, #80093908#)
• Thursday, July 12th, 4pm EDT: How to Host a Property Visit (1-800-377-8846, #80093908#)

Please let us know if you have any questions about the Challenge rules (listed on the flyer) or help reaching out to lawmakers.
