NAHMA Update: CDC Extends Federal Eviction Moratorium Until June 30, 2021March 29, 2021 Dear NAHMA Members, Today the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a 90-day extension of the federal eviction moratorium until June 30, 2021. The order applies to several federal agencies including the Treasury Department, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the Department of Agriculture (USDA), and specifically prohibits a landlord or owner of a residential property from evicting any qualified “Covered Person.” CFPB and FTC Issue Joint Statement on Preventing Illegal Evictions: Additionally, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will be working with the CDC to make renters aware of their rights under the eviction moratorium and to help them to understand how to complete declarations needed to stop evictions. In a joint statement released today, CFPB and the FTC announced that they will monitor and investigate eviction practices to ensure that companies are complying with the eviction moratorium extension and monitor consumer complaints for spikes and trends in potential COVID-related violations that may threaten housing security.
