FAIR HOUSING MONTH 2020
Happy Fair Housing Month! Please join the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO) on April 29, 2020, by participating in the National Fair Housing Training Day on Sexual Harassment Prevention in Housing. This national training event is projected to increase knowledge of sexual and other forms of harassment in housing, how to prevent it from occurring and how to address it when it happens. This web-based, interactive, and self-paced training module is available on the “Preventing Sexual and Other Discriminatory Harassment in Housing” webpage on HUD Exchange. Educational tools about sexual harassment and other forms of discriminatory harassment are also available on HUD Exchange for local education and outreach efforts.
This training initiative, launched in April 2018, was identified as a primary goal of the Joint Sexual Harassment Prevention Task Force between HUD and the Department of Justice. Since February of 2020, we have received 49 housing discrimination complaints alleging sexual harassment in housing. National conversations about sexual harassment in housing are trending on multiple social media platforms especially in light of housing challenges resulting from the COVID-19 Pandemic.
We encourage you to participate in the Preventing Sexual and Other Discriminatory Harassment in Housing training. To access the training, simply create a free HUD Exchange account and complete the short questionnaire. Existing HUD Exchange account holders may log into their HUD Exchange Learn accounts to take the training. The training is available 24-7 and open to anyone interested in learning more about sexual harassment in housing. Addressing and preventing sexual harassment and other forms of harassment in housing is everyone’s responsibility. Together we can all make a difference. Thank you.
