NAHMA HUD Update: HUD, CFPB & FHFA Launch Joint Mortgage and Housing Assistance Website for Americans Impacted by COVID-19

May 14, 2020

Dear NAHMA Members,

This week, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), along with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), launched a new mortgage and housing rent payment assistance website: cfpb.gov/housing.

This joint website consolidates certain provisions of the CARES Act including mortgage relief options, protections for renters, resources for additional help, and information on how to avoid COVID-19 related scams.  The website also provides lookup tools for homeowners to determine if their mortgage is federally backed, and for renters to find out if their rental unit is financed by the Federal Housing Administration, Fannie Mae, or Freddie Mac.  In addition to the tools made available by HUD and FHFA, CFPB has also partnered with FHFA on the Borrowers Protection Program that enables the agencies to share servicing information to protect borrowers during the COVID-19 national emergency.

The full joint statement from HUD, CFPB and FHFA can be read HERE.
